One year of boards, training, and progression
Sandbox opened with a simple idea: a gym built around boards, training, and progression. One year later, we're celebrating the same way – with a night built around the climbers who trained here, the teams who pushed each other through June, and the community that made Sandbox what it is.
You don't need to have climbed a single qualifier to be part of it.
What's happening on Saturday
Three divisions, one spray wall, one Kilter board, and a full night around them.
4:00 PM – Doors open
Get in early, grab a drink or a donut, chat to vendors at popups
4:30 PM – Open B and Open C finals start
Open B: three teams battling head-to-head on the spray wall.
Open C: individual elimination on the Kilter board.
6:30–7:30 PM – Dinner break and community games
Catered dinner from Cafe Redstone. Darts tournament, Plate Drag Race, and Wrist Roller Derby. Prizes up for grabs – everyone can join in.
7:30 PM – Open A finals start
The top division showdown on the spray wall.
How team finals work?
Board climbing is often solo – your projects, your sessions, your sends. Finals flips that: instead of climbing set problems, teams set problems for each other.
• Each team picks a spray wall and sets a problem — something they can climb, but their opponents might not.
• The setting team climbs their own problem first. If they can't send it, the point's still live for everyone else.
• The other teams then attempt it. Send it, take the point.
It's not just about who pulls the hardest. It's climbing well, setting smart, and reading what your rivals can't do. Expect surprises.

• anyone curious what a board comp actually looks like
• first-timers who've never set foot on a climbing wall
• regulars who just want to watch, eat, and heckle
• anyone who wants to be there for Sandbox's first birthday
Finals night is our anniversary party!
Not that long ago, Sandbox was an empty warehouse and an idea. This Saturday, it's a room full of the people who made it real.
There's no next year's first birthday. If your friends are there and you're not, you'll only hear about it.

Quick logistics
Where: Unit A2, 27-29 Fariola Street, Silverwater.
When: Saturday, July 4 – doors 4PM, finals 4:30PM
Entry: Members are already covered – show up and bring a friend. Everyone else, grab the normal day pass at the door. No extra event ticket, no booking needed.
What's included: catered dinner, finals, community games, prizes, and vendor popups – all with your entry.
First-timers: bring a friend who's never climbed. Everyone's welcome.
Come be there for it!
